I'm a photographer and filmmaker. Due to my stand against nationalism, I was forced to flee my country (Ukraine) and became an exile in the US (2009). In 2013, my media was banned in Russia for "propaganda of homosexuality". Shortly after I co-founded VVHY Visual Lab. In my photo/documentary work, I explore Black, immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities in the US, as well as issues of political resistance and street culture. In exile, my main tool of expression (Russian language) became useless. I had to find new, universal language to communicate. This is how I started to make photos on the streets of NY.
